The Christmas Chronicles 3 is not out of the realm of possibility as Chris Columbus is open to a third film. A Netflix original The Christmas Chronicles was co-produced by Columbus and directed by Clay Kaytis. The vacation film with Kurt Russell as Santa Claus and the introduction of Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus was a hit with the audience. The streamer reported that over 20 million households saw the film in the first week after its release in 2018. It didn’t take long for a sequel to go into production.
To the The Christmas Chronicles 2Columbus stepped into the director’s chair with a script that Columbus and Matt Lieberman had written together. As with the original, millions of viewers immediately checked the release when it hit Netflix late last month. This makes the sequel the streaming service’s most watched title on its debut weekend. This has left some fans hoping that another sequel with Russell and Hawn will be made for another vacation adventure like Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and it seems Columbus is just as open to the idea.
Talk to ComicBook.com about The Christmas Chronicles 2Columbus had that to say.
“There is a poignant moment in the film when they watch the children making snow angels and Mrs. Claus says: ‘It’s so nice to have real children in the village again.’ But you say, “We never explain why she feels this way. There is one hidden, slightly dark, melancholy thing in her past that we don’t know about. “And I love the fact that we don’t deal with it in this movie. It’s in some of the notes Kurt wrote. We know what it is. Maybe if we are lucky enough to do a third it may be related. “
Although there have been no official discussions between Columbus and Netflix about the possibility of The Christmas Chronicles 3The director also says that the team behind the franchise would be open to adding to the story, even if they don’t yet know exactly which path to take with the plot.
“I don’t know. But it’s interesting because right now I can’t even think about what the third potential film could be. But we’re definitely ready to open up this world even more.”
If another sequel never happens, then The Christmas Chronicles 2 could serve as Russell’s last film. In another interview with Yahoo Entertainment recently, Columbus said that Russell wanted Santa Claus to be the “last role” he would play before going into the sunset. The actor is reportedly so committed to the role that he also wrote nearly 200 pages of backstory for his version of Santa, although most of the information wasn’t in the films. Turning the series into a trilogy could be a great way to give Russell another memorable accomplishment.
Time will tell if there will ever be a third installment of the Christmas chronicles Series, but for now you can find both films currently streamed on Netflix. This message comes to us from ComicBook.com.
