When booking a hotel, don’t settle for bronze or silver – go for gold every time.

And don’t waste time looking for top properties on the internet. Just consult the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List 2021.

The guide highlights “classic and extraordinary” hotels from around the world and “provides inspiration and authoritative criticism for discerning travelers on where to stay”.

Among the 33 hotels making The Gold List 2021 are a “wonderfully cozy” Parisian hotel, a venue in Marrakech with “stunning rooms”, a “gold standard” safari lodge in South Africa and a “bright and cheerful but low key “Beverly Hills legend.

Melinda Stevens, Editor-in-Chief of Condé Nast Traveler said, “This year it’s even more important to share our recommendations and support the truly trustworthy classics that you can count on time and time again. We partner with the best people in the business to provide the best travel recommendations, and we hope the 2021 Gold List will inspire our readers to dream, plan their next adventure, and explore new places as soon as we get into it are able to. ‘

Scroll down to see a selection of the hotels making up the new list, from swanky townhouses to beach getaways …

GRAND HÔTEL DE CALA ROSSA, PORTO-VECCHIO, CORSICA: This hotel has been run by the Canarelli family since the late 1970s and has the lively atmosphere of a sprawling beach villa with vaulted ceilings made of white stucco and lots of inviting ceilings and linen sofas that roll up, ”says Condé Nast Traveler. It adds, “The hotel has its own sandy beach with sun loungers and parasols, and its gardens are buzzing with birds and insects in the summer months.” The hotel’s beach restaurant is shown. Rooms from £ 163 per night. Visit hotel-calarossa.com/fr

LE BRISTOL PARIS:

LE BRISTOL PARIS: “Fresh from a summer spruce tree, the most popular hotel in Paris is in irrefutably good condition,” writes Condé Nast Traveler. It goes on: “Although the sparkling building was classified as worthy of having more than five stars, it feels wonderfully cozy.” The Elysee Suite is shown. Rooms from £ 892 per night, see oetkercollection.com/hotels/le-bristol-paris/

TENUTA DI MURLO, UMBRIA, ITALY: Accommodation here ranges from B&B-style rooms and one-bedroom cottages to Castiglione Ugolino, a beautiful castle that sleeps 20. Condé Nast Traveler says, “The first thing you notice is the space. In all directions are rolling hills of deep emerald - and almost nothing else. 'Rooms from £ 104 per night. Visit murlo.com

THE ALBATROZ HOTEL, CASCAIS, PORTUGAL: This hotel was first operated as a tiny inn in the 1960s and has become one of the city’s first five-star hotels. Rooms from £ 118 per night. Visit thealbatrozcollection.com/albatrozhotel/m/

HOTEL ASTORIA, ST. PETERSBURG:

Room rates start at £ 130 per night. You can find more information at roccofortehotels.com/hotels-and-resorts/hotel-astoria/
