Family doctors have a variety of options. How will you invite people to be vaccinated in practice and how are they selected?
First, the people who are at greater risk of developing and suffering from COVID-19 will get infected first. Because of this, healthcare workers will vaccinate first so they can protect others. Then we know from examples from other countries that the residents of nursing homes are exposed to a great risk. From there people with health risks. We know these are at least 70 years old and people with chronic diseases.
We will certainly be flexible. We will prioritize those at higher risk of suffering from the virus.
Vaccinations are voluntary. If people don’t show up right away, how long are you going to spend convincing them?
It would be great if we could protect as many people as possible from the start. But of course we will answer any questions that people worry about. It is clear that the person will make their own decision, but we will advise them and be ready to answer questions.
How are you prepared to deal with certain fears – vaccines are new, knowledge and practice haven’t had time to mature?
Our job is not to convince people, but to get back to normal life as quickly as possible. But the vaccine that actually works isn’t in a bottle, it’s in one that trains the immune system and teaches it to defend itself against this nasty virus.
When it comes to the new vaccine, people may have doubts and fears, but when we look at how thorough clinical studies have been, how large the study samples are, the transparency of the process study protocols has already been made public. Before we even start vaccinating, many countries are already doing this – the United States, Great Britain, there are more.
There have been some allergic reactions, one specific allergic reaction – it’s not a regular allergy, it’s an anaphylactic allergy. If there is anything I can say to make sure this reaction is easily treatable, all you have to do is stay at the vaccination site for 15 minutes, the reaction will go as quickly as possible.
Is there some way to pay money to get a vaccine faster?
I have no doubt that some internet pharmacies will sell something, but I do not recommend anyone buy anything from these, you will not get a vaccine. Vaccinations are made as simple as possible in the European Union so that the people at higher risk get them first. I see no reason to buy your own vaccine.
