The Monitoring Committee for the Supervision of the Security Agencies of the Riigikogu was established to review the legality of the activities and surveillance activities of the Internal Security Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service under Section 36 of the Security Agencies Act.
In addition to Ligi and Kingo, the committee consists of Aivar Kokk (Isamaa), Kaido Höövelson (center) and Ivari Padar (SDE). The decisive vote on Ligi’s election as committee chairman was taken by Padar.
The extraordinary elections took place in connection with the change of government and resulted in changes in the committee lists.
Ligi also joins the Council of the Bank of Estonia
With Andres Sutt (Reform) as Minister for Foreign Trade and IT under the new government, the former Finance Minister Jürgen Ligi will also take up an office in the Council of the Bank of Estonia.
Mart Võrklaev, leader of the Riigikogu Group of the Reform Party, announced on Thursday: “The Reform Group will propose that Jürgen Ligi be appointed to the Council of the Bank of Estonia.”
The Council of the Bank of Estonia is composed of representatives from the Riigikogu Group and sector experts. The current council consists of Jaanus Karilaid (center), Ivari Padar (SDE), Sven Sester (Isamaa) and Jaak Valge (EKRE) as well as the experts Kaie Kerem, Enn Listra, Rein Minka and Urmas Varblane.
The council is chaired by two-time Prime Minister Mart Laar (Isamaa).
