The Moscow Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development has developed an information system to monitor water transport on the Moscow River, Moscow Transport announced on February 17.
“River walks are becoming increasingly popular in Moscow. The number of pleasure boats that transport residents and guests of the capital by water is growing every year. In the future, we plan to introduce a new type of urban transport – water transport, ”said the Moscow Transport press office. “In this context, the city needs to create a control and monitoring system for water transport. This way we can monitor the situation in real time and respond to emergencies immediately, ”she added
The river monitoring system is an integrated automated system that can analyze the movements of all ships along the river – passengers, cargo, small ships. It contains 111 cameras on objects with water attraction – pillars, bridges, bridge piers. The system also enables photos and videos to be transmitted to the departments responsible for monitoring and managing violations, as well as identifying illegal transport companies.
“This system is primarily aimed at transport security. What is happening on the river today? We do not know what type of ship, whether it has met the technical regulations, who it is transporting, what type of cargo is being transported. There are now many unanswered questions. Our system enables us to determine in real time the make, model of the ship, the captain, the company and a number of technical characteristics, ”added the press office.
The surveillance system tracks and records the rules for mooring, approach rules, licensing and speed limit violations of ships. Then, after the monitoring base has been set up, preventive action can be taken to avoid accidents on the water.
