NRL star Mitchell Pearce canceled his wedding almost at the last minute after allegedly sending flirty texts to an employee of the club.
Newcastle Knights captain Pearce and his partner Kristin Scott were due to tie the knot in front of 150 guests in Byron Bay on the north coast of New South Wales on Tuesday.
On Christmas Eve, the guests, some of whom had already traveled to Byron Bay, were informed that the Covid-19 pandemic was forcing the wedding to be postponed.
However, the wedding was canceled after Pearce reportedly told some teammates that he had sent racy texts to a young Knights employee the week before Christmas.
“The Newcastle Knights are aware of the problem but it is a private matter that remains between the two people,” the team said on Sunday.

Ms. Scott and the employee’s partner reportedly saw the alleged news, and Pearce and his fiancée were celebrating Christmas separately.
A club source told the Daily Telegraph that the alleged flirting was limited to the series of messages and that “nothing physical” had happened.
“There was nothing physical, just stupidity in Mitchell’s name with a young girl who works at the club. Lots of people are upset about it, ”they said.
Pearce insisted that the wedding only be postponed, not canceled, and that the couple “put things right”.
“I’m dirty when people spread rumors,” he said.
Daily Mail Australia contacted the Knights and Pearce for comment.
Pearce and wife Scott published their relationship in May 2019 before Pearce proposed them in April 2020.
For an engagement ring, he bought a 2.5-carat solitaire oval diamond valued at about $ 40,000.
