Hakim Ziyech “suffers at the moment” from the quality of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, says Thomas Tuchel, when Chelsea boss admits it is his “fault” that the winger only started under him twice
Hakim Ziyech faces a battle for entry into the Chelsea first team due to the form of Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic, says manager Thomas Tuchel.
Ziyech has only started one Premier League game under the new Blues boss – and that was his first responsible game in a goalless draw with Wolves.
Since then, the 27-year-old has been dropped from the squad when he beat Burnley 2-0 at home. In the victories against Tottenham, Sheffield United and Newcastle United, he was an unused replacement.
Hakim Ziyech is currently in the Chelsea pecking order, reveals manager Thomas Tuchel
In the 1-0 win in the fifth round of the FA Cup in Barnsley, he finally started again for Tuchel, but was replaced in the second half.
The Moroccan was set to play an important role for Chelsea after arriving from Ajax this summer but Tuchel says he will get his chance at some point.
“It’s my fault he isn’t playing a lot right now because I picked Mason, Callum and Pulisic at times. These are tough choices, but it’s a good thing because it means we have quality.
‘There are some choices for other players which means Hakim is suffering right now.
“I can understand, so in this case it’s my responsibility that he can’t show anymore. If I look at the rhythm and schedule for the next few days, I’m sure we will all need our players. ‘
