Russia has delivered a number of Sukhoi Su-30SM Flanker multi-role fighter jets with French avionics to Belarus.
Several news agencies reported that Belarus has received a new two-seat Su-30SM fighter aircraft, equipped with an advanced human-machine interface system developed by Thales.
The fighter planes were designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau on behalf of the Ministry of the Republic of Belarus based on the updated export version of the Su-30. A supply contract was signed in 2017.
The Belarusian version differs from the base Su-30 in the composition of the air equipment, since some pieces of equipment have been replaced by French ones. The new fighter aircraft is equipped with a holographic head-up display system made in France for tactical situation analysis and map presentation.
The HUD system developed by the Thales is used for military observation and combat missions. The Thales HUD 3022 installed on the Su-30SM contains the mission system software that controls the navigation and attack system and coordinates aircraft sensors and effectors to ensure mission success.
According to the Thales website, the company’s systems and equipment are suitable for a wide variety of hunters: Rafale, Mirage 2000, Mirage F1, Jaguar, Taifun, Tornado, Su-30, MiG-29, MiG-21, F-18, F 16.
The Su-30SM is a mass-produced and improved two-seat, super-maneuverable fighter jet of Generation 4 ++. The Su-30SM is equipped with two rewarmed double-flow turbofan engines with thrust vector AL-31FP. The fighter has a range of 1,500 km and a flight time of 3.5 hours without refueling.
