The director of the research institute “Kvant-Radiolokatsiya” reported in an exclusive interview with Defense Express that Ukraine had delivered a multifunctional marine radar system for the US military.
“By the way, last year we delivered the same mineral ME to the USA. You probably need it to assess the enemy as both Russia and China have managed to start producing immediate analogues of this station, which indicates the relevance of the product, ”Eduard Kasapov told Defense Express in an interview .
The Mineral-ME is a multifunctional radar designed for self-defense, air and surface surveillance and simultaneous tracking of multiple targets, volume search and guidance of multiple missiles.
According to Rosoboronexport, Russia’s state arms dealer, the Mineral ME radar is intended for surface surveillance. Early detection and tracking of surface targets across the horizon; automatic reception and processing of information about the surface situation of carriers equipped with interface systems; Receipt and processing of information from external sources (command-automated management systems, observation posts); Control of the joint operation of carriers equipped with interface systems; Generation and output of data for designating surface targets for missile weapon command systems of ship and land missile systems, for ship artillery and torpedo weapon systems.
Typical detection range against a destroyer-sized target in active mode in up to 250 km, while that in passive mode is between 80 and 450 km.
Such Mineral ME radar systems are installed on Russian warships and on Sovremennyy-class destroyers sold to China, and China also bought additional sets for its own destroyers. China also developed its own variant of this radar system, the Type 366.
In addition, the modern Russian coastal defense missile system Bal uses similar radar systems with X-35 anti-ship missiles.
In addition, at the beginning of November 2020, the US Department of Defense commissioned the Ukrainian company Iskra, which is part of UkrOboronProm, with the delivery of the new radar system.
In a recent interview with Opk.com.ua, Iskra chief designer Dmitro Semenov said that a few days ago another contract was signed for the supply of radars developed by a Ukrainian company to the United States.
